about
Let Me Out Of Here is for anyone who has been stuck in the darkness, or who is there right now. It’s both an acknowledgment of that pain, fear, and helplessness, and a hand reaching out to remind you that the light is still there, no matter how dim it may appear right now. In 2016, while my body was living in Nashville, I was fighting for my life in a deep depression, daily panic attacks, with never-ending anxiety. It was the product of a lifetime of carefully hidden trauma, abuse, and sadness that I had never addressed coming to head.
My collaborator on this song and dear friend, Rusty Matyas, brought his own experiences to this song from surviving years of alcoholism and addiction that almost took his life. Once you’ve been in the darkness, you always know it’s there, but we fight to stay in the light now, and hope we can help others in their fight too.
lyrics
When I’m all messed up and I shouldn’t be alone
I get all dressed up with nowhere at all to go
Everyone’s got an opinion to share so I stand there politely pretending to care
I know what it is I so desperately need, so I smile through my teeth
Someone needs to get me out of here
Let me out of here
When the fire’s burned out and I can’t find my way around
Am I hearing things? Confusion’s become my crown
Everyone wants me to know that they care
While I’m telling myself they don’t want me to share
While mistakes roll by like a movie screen
And I’m trying to scream, I’m trying to scream
Let me out of here
Let me out of here
Everyone’s got an opinion to share so I stand there politely pretending to care
While mistakes roll by like a movie screen and I’m trying to scream, I’m trying to scream
Let me out of here
Let me out of here
Sometimes you’re the worst of yourself
Sometimes you’re everything else
When you’re the worst of yourself
I’ll be, I’ll be, I’ll be there
